The Lena Volunteer Fire Department serves as the firefighting team in the Lena Fire Protection District. Paramedic ambulance services for the district are provided by Leamons Ambulance Service.

The district contains 92 square miles and is located in west central Stephenson County, Illinois. The district contains three communties: Lena with a population of 2900, Waddams Grove with a population of 100, and Eleroy with a population of 175.

Tha Canadian National Railroad maintains a rail line which runs through our district from the southeast portion to the northwest portion of our district. U.S. Highway 20 and Illinois Route 73 are the main highways through the district.

The district is an agricultural area. Two cheese factories are located in the district: Torkelson Cheese Company, north of Lena on Route 73, and Kolb Lena Cheese Company, west of Lena on Highway 20. Lena is also home to Lena Maid Meats, a retail meat store and butchering plant. The district has several other agricultural based companies including: Stamm Farm Systems, Martin Minerals, Lena Sales, Allied Commodities, Stephenson Service Company, Lane View Ag Supply, and Adkins Energy Ethanol.

The district is also home to Eco-Energy Wind Farm, and two trucking companies: Werhane Enterprises and Lobdell Trucking. Our district also contains Lake Le-Aqua-Na State Park, which is approximately 750 acres.

The fire department is located at 405 W. Railroad Street in Lena, Illinois. Thirty-Two active firemen are on the roster, aided by the Department Chaplain, and several honorary members. The district is managed by three trustees who are appointed by the Stephenson County Board. We currently house nine active apparatus.

The department is a member of the Stephenson County Fire Chiefs Association. We are also a member belonging to M.A.B.A.S. Division 17. We also belong to the Illinois Firefighters Association, Southern Wisconsin-Northern Illinois Fire/Rescue Association, and the Illinois Association of Fire Protection Districs.
